How do you know it's summer in your neighborhood? I figure most everyone will say the fabulous flowers, berries, veggies... How about bunnies? I swear there was one, just one, in the front yard of every house as I drove down our street this morning. Cute little brown ones - I wonder if they were playing some game I didn't understand?! I really should draw them - they need to be lined up on my next quilt!
I hope you find time to smell the roses and watch the bunnies today.

See you soon,
Mary Beth
QC Sidewalk Celebration
Saturday ~ July 29th ~ 10:00am-5:00pm
and Sunday ~ July ~ 30th ~ 12:00pm-4:00pm

The air is crackling with excitement here as we scurry about getting amazing goodies ready for this summer's QC Sidewalk Celebration.  You are not going to believe all the amazing temptations and the unbelievable deals this year!  We will be bringing back our rolls-of-quarters (and wait until you see the gorgeous coordinated fat quarters we are rolling up for you!), 3 yard "backing" rolls, and the beautiful, irresistible, fully loaded baskets Deb and Maureen have been working on all month!  Plus, we will have incredible deals on books, patterns, discontinued shop samples and more.  The sidewalk and side of the building will be stocked and ready for you to peruse by 10:00am on the 29th.  The celebration keeps getting more and more popular every year, so we ask you to keep in mind that accurately figuring yardage requirements for your next project is difficult these two days - we would love to help you get ready the week before! It is sure to be crazy on the sidewalk, but so worth the visit!
We thought we had best let you know when the next Saturday Sampler meetings are - these month's with five Saturdays are so confusing. Our next appliqué session is the 22nd and the pieced meeting is the 29th. You have a little longer to stitch this month!

A note from Lizzi ~

I have begun work for my Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award a Girl Scout can attain. For my project I am creating floor pillows for Jumping Jack Theatre, a theater group based in Pittsburgh, which creates productions for children who would benefit from autism friendly strategies and environments. The floor pillows will be used as seating for children and will include sensory textures via fibers such as ric rac, Minky,  and silk. The floor pillows are stuffed with modified bed pillows from Wal-Mart. Donations of fabric, cotton or other textures in bright colors (at least 2 ½" wide by the width of the fabric), or Wal-Mart gift cards would be put to use, as the goal is 35 floor pillows! I am hosting a sewing day on Thursday, July 20th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm in the downstairs classroom at Quilters Corner to construct the floor pillows. Everyone is invited! I will be providing supplies and instruction at that time. Thank you ~ Lizzi

Our friend Renae is once again collecting school supplies for children in West Virginia. The school she has selected is one of the least affluent in the entire country. Last year, with your help, every child received a backpack with school supplies - she was told it was the best first day ever. You can be sure your donations of everything from backpacks to paper, notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons,... will make a huge impact. Items can be placed in the box near our front door - thank you in advance for your support of her enormous project!

New Fabrics!!!

Lori Holt's Bee Backgrounds and Bee Basics for Riley Blake ~ $11.20/yd
We all need more blenders in our life - they are used in essentially every project we make, so it's hard to ever have "enough".  Why not bulk up that stash with the absolutely fabulous new pieces from Lori Holt?  Her Bee Backgrounds group consists of a fantastic array of low volume prints on a soft white background.  The dainty line drawings of mason jars, vintage fans, cursive alphabet, cross stitch instructions, garment patterns, checkers and dots are soft and subtle, yet would add so much visual interest as a background option.  Bee Basics share the same feel as the Backgrounds, but with bright, saturated tones of gold, tangerine, raspberry, charcoal and cobalt.  Out of all the fun little prints of scissors, cross-stitched hearts and motivational text, I have to say, the 50's style televisions might just be my favorite.  We are going to be using all these goodies in so many upcoming projects, it may be wise to come grab some while they are still here!

Amy Butler's Soul Mate for Free Spirit ~ $11.30/yd
Floral is coming back in fashion, but in a totally refreshed, revamped style, and Amy Butler is clearly leading the pack with her delicious new collection, Soul Mate.  Amy has created a line of rich, bohemian, beautifully done artwork to reflect her environment and her emotions as she fell in love with her soul mate, David.  The result is a stunning field of color, flowers of all varieties, cool geometric blenders, and a few larger-scale mirror image prints (perfect for intricate English Paper Piecing) rounding out the bunch.  It has been a long time since we have seen such a beautiful bouquet, and we can't wait to use it in every facet of our lives.  Pillows, garments, curtains, quilts, and just like her booth at Quilt Market, we think piecing some covers for lamp shades is a brilliant way to revamp plain white Ikea pieces!

Tula Pink's Holiday Homies by Free Spirit ~ $11.30/yd
Moe has been nearly assaulting the poor UPS driver every time he arrived for the past two weeks as she "patiently" awaited the arrival of Tula Pink's Holiday Homies - finally they are here!  Tula has done it again - creating a story, illustrating it as artwork, and somehow managing to create something totally unique and fun.  In this holiday tale, a crew of bespectacled hipster critters get together for a fun "ugly sweater" Christmas party, the eggnog starts to flow, and things get a little out of hand.  What we get to see is the aftermath of the party- a reindeer with ornaments hanging off his antlers, a goose in Santa's hat, and a golden retriever smoking a pipe.  Combine those hilarious images with the really well done coordinates of plaid, peppermints, wood grains, and the holiday sweater motif, and this party can become an absolutely hilarious quilt, pillow, table runner, or pretty much anything else you may want to have give you a giggle during the holidays.  Tula's collections never stick around long, so if you want to chill with these Homie's, you gotta get them quick!
