Dear Friends,
This morning we
proved, yet again, that it's lots more fun
and efficient to sew as a team.
My Mom was here
for the weekend and offered to help with the
pieces I'm working on. Knowing a good deal
when I hear one, I immediately said yes! We
managed to cut and piece the entire Atkinson
Designs table runner (from the new Skinny
Quilts book) in about an hour and a half! The
only thing that seemed to hinder progress was
my very expensive iron... I'd like to meet
the man who thought 3 minutes would make a
good auto shut off time! I think our next
step today should be a trip to the mall for a
new iron (and maybe some chocolate, shoes,
perfume...!)
Happy Stitching,
Mary Beth

This weekend, (May 3rd and 4th),
marks the beginning of our twentieth year! We
opened in a small space on South Park road in
Bethel Park with 143 bolts of fabric! We had
ordered far more, but that turned out to be
our first lesson in fabric shipment
schedules! If you purchased our 2008 date
book you will want to check out the coupon
for the weekend (it has taken a good deal of
research to be ready for that one!). We also
would like to give you a pack of twenty charm
squares when you make a purchase on Saturday
or Sunday. Twenty staff members have each
selected a favorite fabric, we've cut 5"
squares from each and included a key - you'll
see that the selections are as varied as the
talented people who are at your service
during shop visits! Cake and other goodies
will round out the weekend - hope you can
make it!

| New Batiks |
 |
|
You're not
going to believe it - more batik fabric has
just arrived! The newest Hoffman pieces are
just gorgeous! Clear bright green figures
prominently in many of the prints. The
multi-color focus prints would make great
starting points for a new project. Several of
prints look very much like the fabrics we
used in our Stone Cottage model. The
sophisticated design from Judy Martin's Log
Cabin book will make a perfect wall piece -
very much like contemporary artwork. They
would also be perfect for several of the
table and wall pieces in the new Skinny
Quilts book from That Patchwork Place (review
later in the letter!) $9.50 per yard

| Dandelion Girl |
 |
|
The Dandelion
Girl fabric collection that Fig Tree has done
for Moda is wonderful - but just wait until
you see the finished items that go with the
line. The 12" x 15" throw pillow is accented
with the most adorable ball fringe. At only
$15.00 it is a very reasonably priced
compliment to a quilt made from the fabrics.
The sturdy and colorful backpack is pieced
from several of the prints. Because the
straps and handles are made from oatmeal
colored cotton webbing the entire pack is
machine washable.

We have made
lots of models for the shop from the many
different charm packs we stock. Some of them
use the stacks coordinated and cut by the
fabric companies but others use the packs
unique to Quilters Corner. Our shop packs
include two 5" squares each of twenty-five
different fabrics. At the moment we have
black and white, baby, 1930's, Williamsburg
and Jo Morton charm stacks available. $9.95 each

| Skinny Quilts |
 |
|
The new Skinny
Quilts & Table Runners book from That
Patchwork Place caught my eye while I was
gathering things to take to the quilt show on
the weekend. A quick look was all it took to
grab my interest! The book includes fifteen
projects designed by a wide range of our
favorite quilting stars. The diverse styles
range from the simple yet striking works of
Kaffe Fasset to the funky appliqué of Yvonne
Porcella (with lots of others in between!).
The skinny
quilts can be used as table pieces, but would
also be spectacular hung as contemporary
artwork in a home or office. The projects
offer the perfect medium for trying new color
combinations and techniques. Because the
pieces are manageable in size you can easily
move from start to finish, gaining experience
in each phase of construction. The book
includes the patterns for each quilt, a great
quilting basics section filled with practical
tips and brief biographies of each of the
featured designers.
The pattern for the runner shown here is by
Terry Atkinson of Atkinson Designs. She is
noted for clear, concise directions and
timeless style. She has constructed the book
sample from her Buttons and Blossoms line for
P&B Textiles. We don't have a very wide range
of those pieces left in the shop so we made
our sample with the new Fresh Squeezed group
from Moda. It made for a colorful, cheerful
runner - just right as a summer table accent.
We love the book so much that we have begun
work on nine different runners for display
during the Shop Hop - they should be the
perfect compliment to some of the teapots
that will carry out our Hop tea party theme!
Book $24.95, Fresh Squeezed $8.99 per yard

| Mother Goose |
 |
|
P&B's most
popular new baby fabric is back in stock. The
Mother Goose and Friends panel has a blue
background with bright pastels making up the
designs. It works equally well in boy or girl
quilts. We have lots of prints in stock that
compliment these whimsical characters - $5.75
per panel
