Dear Friends,
I felt terribly guilty as I headed off to the mountains for a few days last week. The mountain of boxes that appeared in the shop right before I left was almost as big as the mountain I was visiting! Boxes like that can mean only one thing - the start of a new fabric "season". That's right, Halloween and Christmas fabrics are stuffed everywhere - sorry - I know you may not be ready yet but they're here and they're fantastic! I hope you'll have a few minutes to stop in - see you soon.

New Fabrics!
My favorite new fall group is Halloween Night from Moda. These prints are frightfully fun! The collection includes lots of dots, stripes and country renditions of traditional themes - scarecrows, pumpkins and black cats. The bright green, orange, beige, black and purple color combination is a bit different - certain to make distinctive goodies! Fabric $9.49 per yard, charm squares $8.00 See these fabrics online...
Minick and Simpson designed a wonderful pieced quilt to showcase their Halloween Night group. Spooky is composed of rows of skinny triangles framed with the fun stripes from the group. Why not turn a stack of fat quarters into a new fall favorite? Pattern $9.00
Paper Doll Christmas really stands out in the mountain of holiday fabrics. Yes, these are the same adorable dolls, now dressed for the holiday season. Windham has produced a pattern that uses each of the prints in a 66" x 66" holiday quilt. Eight pointed stars and Log Cabin blocks are perfect for the unique fabrics. Fabric $9.20 per yard See these fabrics online...
Lots of new batiks have arrived from Moda, Island, Kaufman and Hoffman. All the companies have now realized how much you like pre-cut fabric. Each is now offering it's own version of fantastic strip rolls. This is a great way to add a wider color range to your stash - you'll want to start stitching the second you get home!
The new batiks would be perfect for Virginia Robertson's innovative bird pattern. I first saw her Standing Birds in the Bali booth at market last fall. I guess I wasn't the only one to beg her for a pattern - it debuted at spring market. Jill has started a shop flock for us. The funky creatures sport colorful bodies, long spindly legs and button embellishments. I think several need to roost on the corner of my cutting table. Pattern $9.50
In order to make room for the birds I would have to make a few of Terry Atkinson's newest organizers first. The cube shaped pieces are packed with pockets and zippers to keep everything in its place. They can be used in any room, or even slipped into your purse for the ultimate in neatness. Terry is so on top of things that she has also introduced a full line of 14" zippers to compliment the fabrics you might choose for your version of Pockets to Go. At only 89 cents each you won't be able to resist stockpiling them (in one of your Pockets to Go organizers I'm sure!) for future purse projects. Pattern $9.00

Hawaiian Applique
The waiting list for Laura's Hawaiian Appliqué class was so long earlier in the summer that she has agreed to offer the class again. There are several spaces still available (maybe for you and friends?) in the session on Saturday August 14th from 10:00am-2:00pm. The class project is a contemporary rendition of the spectacular Heliconia plant. Laura will share a bit of history and thorough instruction in the fine points of Hawaiian appliqué. Fee: 18.00

Wrapping up our Sidewalk Celebration We held our Sidewalk Celebration this past weekend. For the second time this year the weather was a bit of a challenge during an event. The highest heat index ever on Saturday followed by continuous down pours on Sunday made things "interesting"! We had to rush things inside so they wouldn't get too damp and some goodies are still perched in our regular display spots. The great deals (1 yard cuts as low as $4.22 each, 3 yard backing pieces beginning at $10.95 and models that have graced our shop walls) will be offered until we get things tidied up - through the end of the day on Saturday the 31st.

Vintage Garden Block #9
My Vintage Garden blocks took a short unplanned vacation without me last month. Now that they've returned from Canada I'm back to it. This is the newest, #9 in the series of twelve 7" x 7" blocks. If you have missed any along the way a pattern including the original 12 and 13 additional blocks will be released in the fall. Download your pattern...
