World renowned designer and author Kaffe Fassett and co author Liza Prior Lucy will visit our corner of the world this spring. The evening features an inspiring lecture focusing on their latest project, Simple Shapes, Spectacular Quilts. Much of Fassett's work is influenced by the everyday architecture of a diverse world. Watch as the vivid colors and shapes of his current travels find their way into his latest project. Audience members are encouraged to bring their own creations to share with Fassett and are invited to a book signing at the end of the lecture. Please watch for information about the arrival of his newest book in the shop - it should be here before anywhere else! Tickets for this event must be purchased in advance at the shop or on line and are $15.00 each. They may be picked up at the shop before the event or at the door on April 14th. Winter is Mary Beth's least favorite time of the year. Everything seems so gray. So she thinks an unusual project may be just the thing to dispel the gloom! She has designed a Snow Day Surprise kit. The kit contains fabrics for the top and binding of a secret pieced throw size quilt. The directions for your Snow Day project will be emailed on the first day of the new year with a snowfall over 4”! What better way could there be to spend a day buried at home?! If we don’t make that mark by February (she will be dancing in the street) the directions will be emailed on February 12th.
We have gotten our 4" of snow on Feb. 5, 2010 and the price of the kit has been updated to - $65.95
featured in the latest issue of American Patchwork and Quilting
I’m supposed to be baking pies right now (that takes a good deal of effort for me as I am not the worlds best baker!) but I’m completely distracted by the new American Patchwork and Quilting magazine, which arrived in the shop yesterday. I know I always say the current issue is my favorite ever (although it will be hard for them to top the Fall Top Shops issue) but wait until you see! My Courtyard Garden quilt, stitched with the help of several of your shop friends and quilted by Bona, looks spectacular presented in the room setting the magazine chose. The close-up photos, extensive construction instructions, assembly diagrams and even a page of appliqué tips prove better than any pattern we could have published for the design!
Now that we have seen the piece in print, we are feverishly cutting kits – green, plum and pink prints from Moda’s Eva collection make up the bulk of the kit fabrics. We can’t wait to share them with you.
This issue of American Patchwork and Quilting (the February issue) also includes patterns for nine other projects. I can honestly say that we find each and every project absolutely irresistible. Work has already begun on samples of five other pieces from the issue! You will also find a brief introduction to the 1 Million Pillowcase Challenge included. As you might guess, we are behind this effort 100% - we will be adding the continuous stream of pillowcases you create, with the kits we provide, to the ongoing count. Your cases will continue to go to brighten the hospital rooms of children being treated for cancer.

All the block kits for our 2009 applique sampler – "PA Farmers Market" are now available for online purchase. Mary Beth designed the fruit and vegetable themed quilt as the 2009 applique sampler. Each of the applique blocks feature a fruit or vegetable commonly found in our Pennsylvania gardens.
