I know you would never wish for lots of snow (at least those of you who don't ski...), but should that happen we have just the project to keep you happily stitching through the storm! This coming Monday, the 12th, our 2012 Snow Day Surprise kits will first be available. The kit includes fabrics for a historic style pieced quilt top and binding. Like those of the mid 1800's, the 60" x 60" piece is composed of blocks that travel all the way to the quilts edge. As a new option this year you may order an expanded kit that will include fabric for a pieced inner border and single fabric outer border that will "grow" your quilt to 80" x 80". You'll notice there is one important part missing from the kit description - the pattern. That is the surprise part! You purchase your kit now at the amazing price below and then receive the pattern via email on the first day of 2012 that 5" or more of snow falls on Quilters Corner in Finleyville, PA! As soon as the pattern is published the 60" x 60" version of the kit becomes $74.95. If we are lucky enough not to get 5" of snow on a single day early in the new year you will receive the pattern on February 14th. Order your kit soon - they fly as fast as the flurries!

The designers at Primitive Gatherings were as enamored with the Twister tool as I was. They took their fascination a bit further and asked the original company to make a smaller version. The original designer didn't have that on her "to do" list, but gave Lisa the go ahead. You won't believe what she came up with. Primitive Gatherings is known for working in small scale with a historic style fabric palette, but this is over the top even for them. Now you can begin with 2 ½" squares and make 1" finished segments! Lisa swears this is a truly easy miniature quilt.
Her directions for the cover piece are clearly illustrated with photos of each step. It is amazing to think that all that detail is included in a quilt that finishes 10" x 10"! This is one you just have to try. Pattern $10.00 (includes the Primitive Pinwheel tool)
If you prefer to put larger scale prints to work Mountainpeek has a new pattern that's perfect for your next project. Divided By 3 is billed as a table runner, finishing 21 ½" x 43 ½", but would also make a striking wall quilt. In her version Barb features exquisite Asian style prints (numerous other prints on our shelves would also make great starting points for the project). She carefully cut each section to highlight her favorite parts of the fabric. Tone on tone prints work to compliment and frame her main fabric. This is an example of simple piecing leading to stunning results. Pattern $8.00

Wreathed in Beauty is our newest appliqué block of the month series. The 17” blocks are reminiscent of those created in the mid 1800’s. They are not true historic blocks, but rather what I would have drawn if I lived then. The series includes twelve block kits and four bonus patterns. Your kits will include appliqué fabrics in deep red, green and gold (fabrics are the same or similar to those used in the original blocks). A supply list that details additional fabric requirements (fabrics for background, stems and quilt setting) will be sent with your first kit. The blocks are complimented by an additional bit of appliqué that makes for a unique setting.
